Gang Prevention Program
In December of 2008 the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department formed the Prevention Section within the Gang Crimes Bureau to fully incorporate gang prevention and intervention efforts into policing and to strengthen the Department's existing program efforts. The Section is responsible for identifying and coordinating prevention efforts to reduce the number of children and youth involved with gangs and gang related crime. The Prevention Section specializes in the development of gang prevention programs and resources within the department and throughout the valley. In coordination with many community and law enforcement partners and coalitions, the Prevention Section team members address these issues on a daily basis. A priority of the GCB Prevention Section is to further the Department's efforts to educate and inform the public and to identify opportunities for gang awareness and prevention training. The Gang Crimes Bureau presents training seminars throughout the valley.
We offer the following Programs in the Community:
Gang Talks Forum: Former Gang Members Tell Their Stories: We offer this in Middle and High School, and for large audiences in the community at large.
Community Outreach Gang Prevention & Awareness Training: for educators, youth advocates, social workers, health and mental health professionals, parents and caregivers.
Referral Services for Youth at Risk: Officers, parents, teachers, counselors, and all members of the public who call for assistance are provided with the names and contact information of programs tailored to the needs and situation of the children/youth involved.
