Officer Clark Anthony Wooldridge joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in August 1978. While responding to a report of a fight caused by a traffic accident, Officer Wooldridges' own patrol car collided with another vehicle.

Following the collision the police cruiser overturned and burst into flames.

Officer Wooldridge, who was unconscious inside of the vehicle, was pulled to safety by another Police Officer who arrived at the same intersection moments after the collision. That officer, with the assistance of a citizen, carried his fallen fellow officer away from the burning patrol car.

Officer Wooldridge died two days later of his injuries. He was 22 years of age, and was survived by his wife of less than two years.
