What is the Property Crimes Detail?
The Property Crimes Detail is part of the Financial/Property Crimes Bureau and is headed by a lieutenant. Property Crimes is divided into two squads, East and West. The East team handles the northeast and southeast part of LVMPD's jurisdiction. Property Crimes East has one sergeant, 12 detectives, and four civilians. The West team handles the downtown, southwest and northwest areas of our jurisdiction. Property Crimes West has one sergeant, 10 detectives, and three civilians.
What kinds of crime does the Property Crimes Detail handle?
This detail handles residential burglaries, auto burglaries, commercial burglaries, possession of stolen property, home invasion (non-domestic related), larcenies, retail and construction site thefts.
What are the office hours and location for the Property Crimes Detail?
Business hours are Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. (excluding weekends and holidays.) We are located at 400 East Stewart, Las Vegas, NV 89101. The phone number is (702) 828-3573. Why did the officer who took my report tell me to fill out a form called "Additional Crime Information Report"?
When the initial report is taken, you may not have had all the serial numbers for the items that are missing or a neighbor later may tell you that he or she saw a suspicious vehicle during the time you believe your house was burglarized. Add the information to this form and mail it to the address listed on the form. You may attach additional sheets if necessary or go to your nearest substation to fill one out if you have misplaced the one you were given. This information will be forwarded to the detective who is handling your case.
How do I prevent my residence from being burglarized?
Being involved in Neighborhood Watch, locking your windows and doors when you are not home, keeping an extra key with a neighbor instead of under the front door mat, and assessing your residence for security concerns periodically all help prevent you from being the victim of a burglary. Don't allow strangers needing help (or needing to use the restroom) into your home. If they need to call for help, let them use your portable phone outside or offer to make the call for them while they wait outside.
If your cars are parked outside don't leave the garage door opener in them.

My car was broken into two days ago and I have not heard from a detective yet. What is happening with my case?
It can take as long as five days for a report to reach a detective. As soon as the detective receives your case, he or she assesses it for information that would assist in the apprehension of the suspect(s). If there are leads to be followed, witnesses to contact, pawn flags to be placed, or suspects to be interviewed, the detectives may complete these steps without contacting you. If you want to check on your case's status, please wait five working days to call and always have the event number accessible for easier research of your case.
I came home and found my front door open and unlocked. I walked inside just enough to see that my stereo was gone and the house was torn apart. I was not sure if anyone was still inside. What should I do?
Leave your house immediately and do not touch anything. Go to a safe location and call the police. Tell the call taker what you discovered. A patrol officer will be sent and will search the house for you to make sure there is no one inside. Once the house is safe, you can complete a crime report for the missing items, the scene will be processed, and the case will be assigned to a Property Crimes detective to investigate.
