What is S.O.A.P.?

The S.O.A.P. Detail is the Sex Offender Apprehension Program. S.O.A.P. is part of the Crimes Against Youth and Family Bureau and is headed by a lieutenant. The S.O.A.P. Detail has one sergeant, 3 detectives, and one civilian.

What kinds of crime does the S.O.A.P. Detail handle?

The S.O.A.P. Detail is responsible for investigating crimes pertaining to the registration of convicted sex offenders to include, but are not limited to: Sex Offender Against Child Failure to Register or Change Address (NRS 179d.290), Sex Offender Failure to Register or Change Address or Provide False or Misleading Information (NRS 179.350).Sex Offender Failed Annual Verification (NRS 179d.550).

What are the office hours and location for the Sex Offender Apprehension Program?

Business hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00- 4 p.m. (excluding weekends and holidays). We are located at 4750 W. Oakey Blvd. Las Vegas, Nevada 89102.The phone number is (702) 828-3421. You may leave a message if it is after business hours. When you call, please have your event number available so staff can look up your case and answer your questions.

How do I keep my children safe from sex offenders?

Keeping children safe is the most important job of being a parent, and it's also important that parents teach their children ways to keep safe.

Teach your children they have the right to say NO to any touch or action by others that makes them feel scared, uncomfortable, or confused.

Teach them to tell you immediately if this happens.

Notice when someone shows one or all of your children a great deal of attention or begins giving them gifts.

Practice basic safety skills with your children and discuss their safety openly and honestly.

Be sure to screen babysitters and caregivers. Check references with other families who have used the caregiver or babysitter. Drop by unexpectedly to check on your children.

Take the time to talk to your children and pay attention if they tell you they don't want to be with someone or go somewhere.

I know that my neighbor is a sex offender why can't I find him on the website?

The guidelines and procedures for community notification are established by the Attorney General. The determining factor for community notification depends upon the risk of recidivism by the sex offender: Only Tier 2 and Tier 3 rated sex offenders are placed on the website. Detectives will not be able to confirm that your neighbor is a sex offender for you.

What if I have other questions or want to speak with a detective who works in the Sex Offender Detail?

Please call the Sex Offender Detail at 828-3421 so its Detectives and staff can assist you with your questions or concerns. Leave a message if your call is after the Detail's normal working hours. Again, the Detail's office is open to the public from 7:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
