The Special Investigations Section is part of the Homeland Security Bureau, Homeland Security Division.

The Section is headed by Lieutenant Robert Wills who is responsible for three Sergeants. Each Sergeant is responsible for a squad. Squads are comprised of Detectives, Investigative Specialists, Law Enforcement Support Technicians, Temporary Employees and Volunteers.

The Special Investigations Section is responsible for investigating and enforcing compliance with all liquor and gaming licenses, as well as the below listed Privileged licenses.

The Special Investigations Section has primary responsibility for enforcing all federal, state, and local laws and for gathering intelligence information concerning these business and their owners and operators. These types of businesses have a higher propensity to be directly or indirectly involved with organized crime and at times are fronts for other illegal activities such as narcotic sales, money laundering, and crimes of violence.
